Location: Borough of Swarthmore, PA | Owner: Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority | Cost: $55.5 million | Completion: 2016
Details: JBC Associates is part of the General Engineering Consultant team for SEPTA’s “Rebuilding the System” program. JBC has been providing Construction Management services consisting of scheduling, document control and construction inspection for over $160 million in construction of bridges, viaducts and traction power substations.
For the Crum Creek Viaduct Replacement project, JBC provided CPM scheduling and claims analysis services during the design-build replacement of the Media/Elwyn Line Bridge over Crum Creek. The existing viaduct, completed in 1895, was a series of trestle design structures that rose 100 feet high over Crum Creek and spanned nearly 900 feet across the gap. The replacement viaduct is a new two track, closed deck bridge crossing over Crum Creek following the same alignment and profile of the existing bridge. The new bridge piers and abutments were constructed between the existing bridge abutments, towers and piers. This allowed for construction of the substructure foundation while the existing bridge remained in service and to minimize the shutdown period required for the old bridge to be demolished and the new bridge spans rolled into place. JBC was responsible for the contractor schedule reviews, time impact analysis reviews, and performing an independent analysis of the schedule.
