Location: Mount Joy Borough, PA | Owner: Amtrak | Cost: $33 Million | Completion: 2019

Details: The Mount Joy Station underwent a five-phase renovation project to improve pedestrian access and parking at this Amtrak station. The station upgrade to ADA accessibility standards includes construction of two high‐level, 500‐ft boarding platforms with canopies and two new elevator/enclosed stair towers. A pedestrian overpass between the eastbound and westbound provides access to the platforms. In addition to platform construction, the project improves stormwater management and slope stabilization, adds new parking, and improves existing parking spaces with covered walkways connecting the parking to the elevator/stair towers and covered platforms. These station improvements allow for complete ADA compliance and additionally enhance the safety of the site.
JBC Associates has been providing Construction Management services to the PennDOT Bureau of Public Transportation under several Open-End CM/CI agreements since 2012. For this project, JBC’s Scheduler utilized P6 Visualizer Schedule Comparison to provide schedule review services for the initial baseline schedule and to provide subsequent monthly schedule updates during construction of station enhancements.

The Mount Joy Train Station upgrades are part of a larger effort known as The Keystone Corridor Improvement Project by PennDOT, Amtrak and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) to improve stations and interlocking/signal system changes on Amtrak lines between Harrisburg and Philadelphia, with the goal of raising average speeds to 125 mph and shortening trip times.
