Location: Villanova, PA | Owner: Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) | Cost: $12.8 Million (Phase I) | Completion: 2018

Details: Situated on the campus of Villanova University, the Villanova Station is a SEPTA Regional Rail station on the Paoli-Thorndale line. The Villanova Station Improvements project involved two phases of construction to bring the facility compliant with current ADA accessibility requirements. Phase I involved construction of a new, wider pedestrian tunnel with connecting handicap access ramps and stairs, and site modifications to the station parking lot including sidewalk, signage, landscaping and other pedestrian circulation amenities. Storm water management improvements included an underground retention facility. The project also included upgraded electrical service, power distribution, and LED lighting replacing the old platform light fixtures. Phase II consisted of the construction of new high-level platforms, new canopies, station building improvements, and canopy rehabilitation.
JBC Associates provided construction inspection and documentation services as a member of the SEPTA General Engineering Consultant team during Phase I construction of the new ADA accessible pedestrian tunnel beneath the 4-track, electrified Amtrak Keystone Corridor line and related site improvements. Our work included coordination of all construction activities between SEPTA, the Contractor, Villanova University and Amtrak, supervising the concrete quality control program, ensuring that the project was compliant with ADA requirements, analyzing the contractor’s CPM schedule to determine the cause of critical path delays and working with the contractor to mitigate delays and finish the project by the completion date.
