Sector: Bridges
Location: Philadelphia, PA | Owner: PennDOT District 6-0 | Cost: $63.8 Million | Completion: 2013
Details: JBC Associates provided Construction Inspection and Documentation services as the Prime Consultant on this $51 million project which consisted of the structural rehabilitation of four bridges carrying Arch, 30th, Market and Chestnut Streets over Amtrak in the 30th Street Station area including roadway reconstruction, pedestrian plaza construction, utility relocation, extensive structural steel rehabilitation, blasting and coating of existing steel structures, concrete placement and extensive maintenance and protection of traffic. The project involved extensive coordination between the various PennDOT Departments involved in the project along with the Contractor, Amtrak, the City of Philadelphia, and various utilities. Additionally, as a member of the Construction Management team, JBC staff reviewed the baseline schedule and provided comments; monitored schedule updates during construction and reported on project status; evaluated added/deleted work and contractor requests for time extensions.
The Porch at 30th Street Station was a project envisioned by the University City District to create an inviting, animated public space adjacent to the nation’s third busiest train station. This vision became a reality when the Porch project was piggybacked onto this larger PennDOT project around 30th Street Station. As a result an urban oasis with amenities such as abundant and comfortable outdoor seating, sun and shade, umbrellas, trees and plantings was created.
